Leely Project

What is a Leely?

The Leely Art Gallery is an opportunity for the community to engage in telling their own stories as well as receive free art from local artists. Leely is a word from the Gullah people meaning “little”.  The Gullah people currently live in rural communities along the coast and islands of Georgia and South Carolina.  They are descendants of slaves that still retain elements of their African roots.  The name Leely was chosen to reflect how important our stories and history are to our community development.
